Balance Scorecard Strategy

So much of strategic planning over the years has been numbers-focused and yet is this all that enables success in an organisation or is this too narrow a focus. Kaplan and Norton developed this now world-famous model adding non-financial yet still strategic measures to traditional ‘bean-counting’ approaches to create a more balanced effect. The Balance Scorecard is applicable across all sectors and gives life to an otherwise passive strategy by translating it into measures across the organisation.

Purpose

The purpose of this intervention is to re-launch the Balanced Scorecard approach such that it supports the business in achieving its vision and mission statements, and provides a mechanism through which to ‘provide a rewarding environment for employees to realize their professional objectives’. (By implication this reward must be fair across the employee framework and compatible with the provision of superior value to customers, shareholders and communities.)
